Every year we get a little bag or plate of homemade chocolates and other confections from our good friends and neighbors, the Galoviches. And every year, it's the same great stuff. Jan's grandma worked at the Bluebird in Logan, UT where they sell chocolates and candies. The tricks of the trade were passed down to Jan. She has shared a few recipes with us, but for the most part, we are left to just look forward to each year when she makes them all up for us. This year I think I may have figured out one of the recipes, not that I make it a point to figure them all out, but when something tastes great, naturally you want to re-create it. Here's what I think:
Cashews
Marshmellows, slightly dried out which seems to make them chewier
Captain Crunch cereal
Rice Crispies
White Chocolate
Melt the chocolate and stir into combination of above ingredients. There is a wonderful sweet and salty taste that is very addicting! I am not sure what the ratio is, but I am guessing the rice crispies and marshmellows make up the base with Captain Crunch and then cashews as accents. I think the marshmellows are dried out because she mixes the whole batch of stuff together and lets it sit out until she is ready to deliver them with the rest of her wonderful goodies.
Jan usually starts making all her chocolates and things at the end of November. She started making chocolates as Christmas gifts when she was a newlywed and couldn't afford much of anything else. Now, there are so many people that look forward to her chocolates that she mails them all over the states to family and friends. We sure enjoy and look forward to this time of year when we get our small portion!
