Alishia's Fruit Graton

Alishia came over tonight while she was in town and graced us with a new dessert she learned in one of her classes. It was a winner, thus the reason you find it here on the blog. It's a new twist to the classic Trifle. Definately easy and a great dish to bring to a party!

You will need:

1 Angel Food Cake
2 pkg. frozen mixed berries (or any fruit of your choice)
2 C. whipping cream
1 sm. pkg. instant vanilla pudding (or bakers cream)
1/2 C. sliced almonds
2 Tbsp. butter
powdered sugar for dusting the top

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix the pudding according to directions on box; put in fridge to cool and set. Mix the whipping cream until peaks form and it resembles Cool Whip. Then mix the whipped cream and pudding together. Break apart angel food cake into big chunks and layer in a 9 x 13 glass pan. Next layer the fruit, then top with pudding/cream mixture. Sprinkle the top with a generous layer of sliced almonds that have been mixed with the 2 Tbsp. of melted butter. Then sprinkle powdered sugar over all to give a nice crystallized top.

Bake in oven for 10 minutes or just until heated; Turn oven to broil and toast the top until nicely golden. Serve immediately. It is very good warm and the buttery nuts on top were fabulous!

Optional: This wasn't in her original recipe, but we had some leftover sweetened condensed milk just waiting to be used, so Alishia drizzled about 4-5 Tbsp. worth on half of the dessert. You can never go wrong with that stuff!

The dessert looks almost as good as Alishia. What a darling girl! She's stepping up with the rest of you. Great job ladies.
